Lamela Jewelers

Our Story

Lamela Jewelers is more than just a jewelry store, it’s the culmination of decades of hard work, adaptability, and a deep commitment to family values. At the heart of this legacy is Osmel R. Lamela, a Cuban immigrant whose journey exemplifies resilience, vision, and the pursuit of the American Dream.

Osmel arrived in the United States during the Mariel boatlift in 1980, stepping onto American soil in Gary, Indiana, with little more than hope and determination. Though the challenges were significant, adapting to a new culture, learning a new language, and starting from scratch, Osmel faced them head-on with the belief that persistence and effort could pave the way to success.

After a brief time in Indiana, Osmel moved to Miami, Florida, where he began to carve out a future with the support of his parents, sister, and grandparents. Drawing on his creativity and a willingness to take risks, he opened his first jewelry store, Flagler Gold. This venture wasn’t just a business but a confirmation that determination prevails in America. With his passion for craftsmanship and his commitment to serving his customers, success continued. It was also in that bustling shopping center where Osmel met the woman who would become his wife, adding a deeply personal chapter to his professional journey.

As Osmel’s ambitions grew, so did his family. A few years after opening Flagler Gold, Osmel and his loved ones moved west to the vibrant city of Las Vegas, Nevada. There, he purchased and transformed the Latin Sound Record Shop. Initially focused on music, the store evolved into something more. Under Osmel’s leadership, it blended 80’s and 90’s cultural treasures like cassettes and VHS tapes with other goods like jewelry, cowboy leather goods, religious items, and more, something that was normal in old-school Vegas mom-and-pop shops, where offering variety was common.

Osmel’s ability to adapt to changing markets and his unwavering dedication to his craft led to the store’s natural transition into Latin Sound Jewelers, now a premier destination for jewelry in Las Vegas. Through his hands-on approach and attention to detail, Osmel built a reputation for quality, trust, and reliability that resonates with his loyal customer base.

More than a businessman, Osmel is a family man with a strong work ethic and an enduring connection to his Cuban roots, combined with American grit. He takes pride in passing down the values of determination and integrity to his son and grandson, while maintaining strong ties with the community that has supported his journey. Osmel’s story is a testament to perseverance and the impact of family in building something truly lasting.

Latin Sound Jewelers stands as the oldest Latin-owned jewelry store in Las Vegas, a testament to Osmel’s vision and determination. For over four decades, the store has provided an extensive selection of jewelry at competitive prices, earning a reputation as a trusted destination for families across generations. With the support of his son, who shares his father’s values and commitment to serving the community, the family legacy continues to grow.

Today, as every family business grows, so does its story. What began as Flagler Gold and Latin Sound Jewelers has always been rooted in one family’s vision, values, and dedication. Today, as we look toward the future and the generations still to come, we are proud to take the next natural step in that journey by transitioning to a new name: Lamela Jewelers.

The Lamela name reflects the family behind the business and the legacy that began in 1980. It is a tribute to the generations of hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance that have shaped who we are and a promise to continue building on that foundation for years to come.

This is not the beginning of a new story, but the continuation of one that started with a dream, an opportunity, and the belief that through hard work and determination, anything is possible. We are honored that so many families have made us part of their own stories over the years, and we look forward to continuing that tradition as Lamela Jewelers.

Welcome to Lamela Jewelers, where every piece tells a story, and every customer becomes part of ours.

Thanks to Mayor Shelley Berkley and Governor Joe Lombardo, April 1st is officially Latin Sound Jewelers Day. Celebrating over 46 years of service in the Vegas Valley.

We’re honored and grateful to celebrate this milestone with our community, thank you for being part of our journey.
